Due to the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19), and due to continued uncertainty about distancing, then some EICSP events have had to be postponed and rescheduled, and this has led to a reduction in the usual income for EICSP.

Event: Talk/Forum: The Burqa / Niqab Debate in a Changing Europe.

Chair:

Moh Al-Haifi, originally from Yemen, Moh grew up in Bonn, Germany, then decided to study business management in Napier University in Edinburgh four years ago. Moh then discovered the power of creativity and business acumen within the context of social and environmental change. He now works with multiple creative and socially beneficial Edinburgh based enterprises and continues to lead COLOURS of Edinburgh on a voluntary basis.

Speakers:

Neimah Safi, Neimah Safi representing the Muslim Womans Association of Edinburgh which employs the principles of community spirit in Islam to provide community services, volunteering and charity work. She is a Haematology Nurse with 2O years of experience in the NHS, sits on the board of Directors for Confidance for Life, a Dundee based charity aiming at using the healing power of dance. Neimah is half Palestinian and half Scottish and has worn a Hijab since she was 11.

Safia Ali CEO – Amina - Muslim Women Resource Centre. I am currently working for Amina- MWRC that is a national, multi award-winning organisation that was founded on the principles of community development. Our projects aim to inspire, enable and support Muslim and Minority Ethnic women to live better, safer, discrimination free lives whereby they can achieve their full potential. We run national campaigns and exhibition that empower Muslim women to create dialogue and challenge damaging stereotypes. We have office sites in Glasgow, Dundee and Edinburgh.

Having worked in the voluntary sector for over 22 years, the majority of which was in Scotland. Working in various fields; health, housing, community development, domestic violence/abuse, youth work, and group work. I worked with disadvantaged groups, single parents, BME communities, elderly and young people. I have worked extensively with BME communities especially Muslim women.

Nathan Sharp is here (officially) as a representative of the University of Edinburgh (UoE) Atheist, Humanist, and Secularist Society. He also holds the committee position of Sabbath Officer in the University of Edinburgh Jewish Society and Meditation & Mindfulness Officer in the University of Edinburgh Buddhist Society. He studies Cognitive Science with interest in the psychological architecture of religion.

Daniel James Sharp is the President of the University of Edinburgh Atheist, Humanist, and Secularist Society. He studies English Literature and History and has written for various outlets including Areo Magazine, Uncommon Ground, and The Broad.
